Sanjay Bhattacharya is the Founder of a Mumbai based boutique Investment Banking firm INDUS ADVISORS PVT LTD, specializing in SME sector VC/PE Fund raise and M&A transactions. INDUS has completed and advised on transactions in a wide spectrum from Fertilizer to bid-advisory for acquisition of GSM & enterprise-communication assets whilst traversing through Packaged Food, Print Publication and a host of unrelated sectors.
Prior to INDUS, through the decade of Y 2000, Mr. Bhattacharya was an Investment Principal with Frontline Strategies, an India-focused PE fund, where he led investments in the SME sector both in technology and Infrastructure ancillary like in Tejas Networks, Shriram SEPL Composites. He also spent many years as the CFO of Infinity Venture, India, where he oversaw investments and exits in Cognosys Ltd (a spin-out transaction), IndiaBulls (a leading financial services firm), and BrainVisa (later sold to WestBridge). Previous to these 10 years in Private Equity and Venture Capital, Mr. Bhattacharya spent about 10 years in operating roles in the infrastructure services industry, with WorldTel India, Tata Teleservices, Nokia India and as a structured finance professional at IL&FS. He is a CFA and graduated from Calcutta University.
Based in Mumbai, he provides access to deal-flow in India and also works closely with the investee companies enabling them to grow the businesses towards exit.
Based in London, he is a Partner at Phillip Ross & Associates, He has previously been with a number of City Law firms. He has been practicing law for the past 30 years and specialises in corporate finance and IPO’s, including mergers & acquisitions. He has acted for sellers and buyers in numerous transactions of varying values. He has acted for a number of brand-name British, American, Japanese and Indian companies and is practised in cross-border acquisitions. He is abreast with the UK laws related to EIS and SEIS business investments. He has acted on acquisitions in a variety of sectors, including pharmaceuticals, high-tech, I.T., oil & gas, financial services, media and the hospitality industry.
He has a profound understanding of business and advises both sellers and buyers in sales and purchases of businesses and often acts as a deal-broker bringing opportunities to his many and varied clients and contacts. He also specialises in corporate recovery and restructuring and acts for a number of insolvency practitioners in the UK. Apart from legal studies in the UK, he studied law and philosophy in Switzerland. He also followed a course of business studies and was awarded a Masters Degree in Business Administration (MBA), in USA. Arthur is also practised in arbitration and is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
He works on all transactions at the time of investments as well as exits and also provides guidance to the business regarding all commercial/ legal transactions.
